He always carries with him a small bundle of wood (sourced from the coastal, dryland and mountainous regions) and a silver Christian cross. His divination (xray) powers are enabled by the ritual sacrifice of a young chicken and a reading of the marks on its body and internal organs. He determines the cause of illness as well through an interview and note taking process with the sick person or their family member. His medicinal knowledge draws on an extensive suite of trees and plants. The use of some of these trees creates onerous debts which must be repaid to the spirit of the tree. For his example, medicines harvested from nunu wala (a type of ficcus tree) used in muscular-skeletal healing must be repaid for by an offering of one chicken or goat (bibi Timor).
