These photos of black sugar palms (“tua-ma’arau” in Fataluku language) were taken in the Fataluku-speaking communities of Lautem municipality with a view to highlighting the process of tapping and distilling of the local “tua-metan” sugar palms which contribute in a variety of ways to the social life, seasonal income and traditional cultural practices of the people.
