This tais was woven by Abu Nahak (Maria de Jesus Soares Barros) in 1992 in Suai Loro, Covalima. It is made from local cotton and its design elements use natural dyes. It has a “laklo” motif and features predominantly brown striped patterning. It is made up of three panels which are stitched together. This tais served as a saddle for the horse of the liurai when on official business and was also worn by the liurai as clothing in Portuguese colonial times.
