Ume xinas are built out of rock (or concrete) and piku (palm stem panelling) and have a long, narrow thatched roof. The king told us that the house is a centre for ritual life in the region. Even today, all 18 of Oecusse’s villages and associated clan lineages bring their post- harvest offerings here as tribute to the king.
