The village of Vihala in the Bobokasi sub-district is one of the places in Oecusse best known for its pottery production. Archaeological evidence of pottery-making and pottery use in Timor-Leste is at least 3500 years old in in the Baucau and Lospalos areas and 3200 in Ataúro. All potters’ communities in Timor-Leste use similar pottery-making techniques involving a paddle and an anvil, but some differences in the process hint at the different influences over time.
