Joaquin Sarmento activates his healing powers via his connection with nature spirits. While he has a repertoire of known ethno-medicinal remedies he is directed to these remedies after observing the patient in the flesh. He is then directed to the relevant plant medicine by the powers of nature (for example the wind will in some cases make the appropriate remedy known to him). Before administering the remedy he must lightly massage the shoulders of the patient three times. He has no formal connection with the formal health system.
